Having a traditional square dance at a wedding is a unique and fun way to add in a bit of an old-fashioned, wholesome vibe, and it encourages people of all ages to mingle, get up on their feet, and smile! No one needs to know how to square dance, and it’s appropriate for people with any level of physical fitness or ability. We choose easy dances and prompt them all, so it’s nothin’ but fun.
We can provide music for any/all phases of a wedding, as well as necessary sound equipment and recommendations. A typical square dance at a wedding will last maybe 45 – 60 minutes, unless there are a lot of experienced dancers who want to make it more of a thing. We can also just play it by ear.
A typical wedding for us might look something like this:
- Play some simple background music (guitar/fiddle) as people gather before the ceremony (~20-30 minutes)
- Play the processional/recessional tune
- Background music (4 piece) as folks are enjoying cocktails and/or dinner (~45 – 90 minutes)
- “First Dance” if applicable
- Square dance (~45 mins)
- Perhaps switch to an iPod or electric band as the evening progresses and the younger generations gather inspiration
